Pole Engineering Services

Osmose provides pole engineering services targeted toward your existing pole plant.  Many of these services can be combined with an inspection program or performed as separate projects.  Your needs related to joint use, pole replacement, and system hardening are some of the areas where Osmose can help lower costs and minimize backlogs.

Pole Loading Analysis
Thousands of poles in service today, although adequate at the time of installation, no longer meet the safety requirements of the National Electrical Safety Code.  It's imperative that these poles be identified and upgraded or replaced to maintain safety along with helping to prevent failure and the subsequent outages and damages often caused by pole failure.  Osmose field crews collect and transmit pole information along with digital images to the Osmose Project Delivery team.  The images and data are used to perform a detailed load analysis using O-CalcTM Pro pole loading software.

Clearance Analysis
Determining attachment and mid-span clearances is not only required to ensure compliance with the NESC and GO95 standards, it's also required for uprating or upgrading lines.  Ensure that the attachments on your poles are not violating code clearance requirements and creating safety hazards.

Make-Ready Design
From complete turnkey solutions to scaled individual functions, Osmose offers make-ready design solutions that coordinate field project experience, engineering and design skills, mapping and data expertise, and unique software.  Our goal is to help you work more effectively while reducing demands on your existing staff.

Pole Replacement Design
Osmose professional grade technicians and designers provide engineering services to support the turnkey pole replacement process, helping you avoid backlogs. We customize our role to blend with your current procedures and work management systems for seamless workflow.  Outsourcing pole replacement design to Osmose allows you to dedicate scarce engineering resources to mission critical and revenue generating work.  This also helps avoid the risks created by the failure to replace rejected poles in a timely manner.

Post-Construction Verification
Field conditions often cause line workers to modify "as designed" specifications.  Assuming that assets were installed or replaced to specification can leave you with inaccurate data and undetected violations.  Post-construction verification surveys assess the "as built" condition of your assets and ensure that you have an accurate data model.

Pole Upgrading & System Hardening
System hardening doesn't necessarily require mass replacement of infrastructure or relocating assets underground. Those projects can be costly and take years to complete. System Hardening can be achieved by upgrading in-service wood poles.  The Osmo-ET-Truss upgrades pole strength by one, two, three, or more classes.  It's a cost-saving option that allows you to better manage your system reliability.
