Open Job Opportunity: Senior Designer Position Description
Location: Various (On-Site Support)
Report To: Manager – Operations or Project Manager – Operations
Summary: The position of Senior Designer may encompass a wide array of technical services for the electric utility, cable and telecommunications industries. A Senior Designer should be able to handle all levels of design complexity and be able to manage the scheduling and tracking of multiple design projects. In addition, a Senior Designer would train and supervise Design Technicians, Junior Designers and/or Designers.
Responsibilities:
- Field and site visits are required to collect relevant project information. This can include measuring and capturing attachment and equipment heights, GPS collection, digital images, staking, etc ...
- Apply a thorough understanding of pertinent laws, codes, national guidelines (NESC, ANSI) and the ability to follow utility specific standards and practices. Understand and apply client specific terminology.
- Read and interpret construction prints and notes.
- Analyze pole loading and calculate pole spacing solutions using sag/tension and loading software applications.
- Determine scope of work and provide make-ready recommendations for proposed work.
- Act as representative of the Osmose customer throughout negotiation and field ride-out for third party attachment request applications.
- 7Perform back office entry of field data into appropriate utility target systems. This could include cost estimations and job breakdowns in work management systems, updates and changes to GIS, etc ...
- Perform complex designs and drawings independent of supervision.
- Collect pertinent information to apply for permits and easements.
- Organize job folders for projects that are inclusive of maps, field notes, computer aided drawings, analysis performed and digital images.
- Attend pre-construction meetings and lead the design discussion.
- Perform post-construction field audits to ensure compliancy with original designs.
- Perform quality assurance audits on work done by Design Technicians, Junior Designers and Designers.
- Work professionally within a customer’s office environment and in the field working as a representative of our customer to others.
- Work safely and independent of supervision.
Requirements:
- Relocate to customer's site.
- One year experience as Designer or comparable experience.
- Successful completion of the Osmose GIS Training Program, Fastgate Training Program & the Osmose Overhead Facilities Recognition Program.
- A thorough understanding of utility maps and basic electrical connectivity & phasing for both overhead and underground construction as represented in GIS systems and in the field.
- A thorough knowledge of all pertinent laws, codes and regulations (NESC) and Specific Utility guidelines for operating procedures between different parties on poles.
- Aptitude for computers, math organization and word processing skills. Experience and ability to use computer aided drawing software (AutoCAD and/or Microstation) for designs.
- Ability to follow processes, specifications and guidelines in an extremely high quality environment.
- Ability to represent Osmose professionally within the utility and as a point of contact with other utilities, telecommunications companies, construction crews and additional contractors.
