GIS Data Management
Keeping Your GIS Data Accurate and Complete
Decision making, responsiveness, customer satisfaction, regulatory performance, power quality—they're all affected by the accuracy and completeness of your GIS information. Does your current GIS data show you what’s actually in the field?
Osmose offers utilities several options for professional management of GIS data—either as supplemental GIS services or as a fully outsourced GIS-management program.
Professional GIS Field Surveys
Osmose can improve the quality of your existing GIS data through professionally managed field surveys. Your field audit can be structured to gather information on pole condition and attachments, GPS locations, phasing, service connections, code and safety violations, and other data categories. Or it can focus on a single targeted network feature—like joint use. Osmose will conduct a GIS survey tailored to collect or upgrade data on the GIS area or areas that need it.

Ongoing Data Maintenance
It's not just getting your GIS data accurate that's important—it's keeping it that way. Periodic field audits, on a scheduled or as-needed basis, are essential to keeping your facility information complete and up to date. Using your existing data in the field, Osmose crews can verify its accuracy and make updates where needed. This promotes efficiency in the field and leverages the value of the GIS data you're already using.
Online GIS Mapping Services
The Osmose Mapping Center lets you outsource your mapping operations while retaining all the advantages of a modern GIS. The service gives you 24-hour online access to GIS data on your outside plant. It provides professional management and maintenance of your data. And it does so without the cost and administrative problems associated with staffing, managing, and maintaining a GIS mapping department yourself.

Turnkey Management of “Special” Data
Many utilities want specific types of data—stray voltage and joint-use information, for example—to be stored outside their GIS system. This kind of data is vital to certain business functions but can get “lost” in a GIS.
To make such data more easily accessible, Osmose offers turnkey management of data that needs to have its own repository. Joint-use, stray voltage, and other targeted data is field collected, processed for accuracy, and loaded into a database reserved for the specific type of data. This data is presented—on your desktop, across your network, or over the Web—in a focused, uncluttered view that simplifies processes such as inspection, location, repair, and re-inspection of infrastructure features.
